Dan Namingha (b.1950), NATIVE AMERICAN, museum quality painting titled, "PASSAGE XXIX." Signed and dated 2003. Acrylic on Canvas and measuring 50" x 40". Originally purchased for $16,000. Dan Namingha has been showing professionally as an artist for 40 years. His heritage inspires his work, which explores connections between physical and the spirit world and includes of Hopi symbolism. Drawing and painting was a natural part of Hopi childhood. It gave him a way to express his strong feelings about the culture and environment leading to a path of creative freedom. Dan feels that change and evolution are a continuum; socially, politically, spiritually and that the future of our planet and membership of the human race must be monitored to insure survival in the spirit of cultural and technology diversity. He says that only then can we merge the positive and negative polarization and balance so necessary to communal spirit of the universe. Dan Namingha's artworks are in the collections of the Fogg Art Museum of Harvard University, the Smithsonian Institution, the Sundance Institute, the Wheelwright Museum, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Heard Museum, and numerous foreign museums, including the British Royal Collection in London. Dick Jemison (American, 1942), mixed media painting. Tremendous and rare. 84" x 108". Dick Jemison recounts his first encounter with Abstract Expressionist Paintings. On a school holiday in the late 1950's, at the time when "action painting" as it was also called was first bursting on the scene, Jemison visited the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He still remembers walking up a stairway and confronting a huge, freely spattered, color-saturated canvas by Sam Francis. It was then that Jemison decided to become an artist. Jemison is part of the Abstract-Expressionist aesthetic, which challenged and excited the young artist was shaped by the major painters of the New York school: Willem De Kooning, Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. Malvina Hoffman, Bronze matador. Signed M. Hoffman 1953. Measures 12.5" x 9". Malvina Hoffman (June 15, 1885 – July 10, 1966) was an American sculptor and author, well known for her life-size bronze sculptures of people. She also worked in plaster and marble. Hoffman created portrait busts of working-class people and significant individuals. She was particularly known for her sculptures of dancers, such as Anna Pavlova. Her sculptures of culturally diverse people, entitled "Hall of the Races of Mankind", was a popular permanent exhibition at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. It was featured at the Century of Progress International Exposition at the Chicago World's Fair of 1933. She was commissioned to execute commemorative monuments and was awarded many prizes and honors, including a membership to the National Sculpture Society. In 1925, she was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member and became a full Academician in 1931.[9] Many of her portraits of individuals are among the collection of the New York Historical Society. She maintained a salon, a social gathering of artistic and personal acquaintances, at her Sniffen Court studio for many years. She was highly skilled in foundry techniques, often casting her own works. Hoffman published a definite work on historical and technical aspects of bronze casting, Sculpture Inside and Out, in 1939.
