#2 – Contemporary art lot to include VERY RARE Allan I Teger (American, 20th century) amusement park/bumper car photograph (20" x 16"). Purchased from gallery for an undisclosed amount. Prolific artist. Also included, 5 other pieces of framed art. Allan Teger was one of the first contemporary artists to rediscover the old technique of hand painting photographs. His work explores our memories and dreams with images of old diners, amusement parks and other icons of the vanishing American landscape from the first part of the century. Other images include scenes from Europe which depict what is quickly disappearing the old cafes, storefronts and simple lifestyle of a bygone era. The most recent European images are from the Carnival in Venice Italy. The traditional technique of hand painting a black and white photograph adds to the emotional quality of the images. The result is an image that evokes a timeless moment, the energy of stillness, in which the past and the present and the future all come together. Teger, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology, taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Boston University before leaving academics in 1981 to pursue a full time career in art. Much of his work is derived from his interest in consciousness and mysticism and from the practice of meditation. Pickup in Mount Kisco. Contents of estates from Scarsdale, North Salem, Rye, Manhattan and Bedford to name a few. Please refer to pictures for condition. Please bring help, tools, boxes, wrap, blankets, tools, equipment and the appropriate vehicle for SAFE removal. None will be available on site.

#7 – Jean-Jacques Henner (15 March 1829 – 23 July 1905), "The Reader" nude antique (possible original lithograph). In original frame and measuring 16.5" x 13". Jean-Jacques Henner was a French painter, noted for his use of sfumato and chiaroscuro in painting nudes, religious subjects, and portraits. Henner was born at Bernwiller (Alsace). He began his studies in art as a pupil of Michel Martin Drolling and François-Édouard Picot. In 1848, he entered the École des Beaux Arts in Paris, and took the Prix de Rome with a painting of Adam and Eve finding the Body of Abel in 1858. In Rome, he was guided by Flandrin, and painted four pictures for the gallery at Colmar among other works. He first exhibited Bather Asleep at the Salon in 1863 and subsequently contributed Chaste Susanna (1865), now in the Musée d'Orsay. Other noted works include: Byblis turned into a Spring (1867); The Magdalene (1878); Portrait of M. Hayem (1878); Christ Entombed (1879); Saint Jerome (1881); Herodias (1887); A Study (1891); Christ in His Shroud and a Portrait of Carolus-Duran (1896); a Portrait of Mlle Fouquier (1897); and The Dream (1900). The Levite of the Tribe of Ephraim (1898) was awarded a first-class medal. Among other professional distinctions, Henner also took a Grand Prix for painting at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in 1873, Officer in 1878, and Commander in 1889. In 1889, he succeeded Cabanel in the Institut de France. Henner's most widely known work is his 1885 portrait of Saint Fabiola. Although the original is now lost, it was copied by artists around the world for devotional purposes. Artist Francis Alÿs has collected over 500 copies of the portrait in a variety of media. The collection, known as the "Fabiola Project," is on exhibit at the Byzantine Fresco Chapel of the Menil Collection in Houston from May 21, 2016 - May 13, 2018. Henner died at age 76 in Paris. Henner had numerous pupils; among them were the American painter Mathilde Mueden Leisenring and the Romanian artist Dimitrie Serafim. From 1874 to 1889, organized with Carolus-Duran, what he called "the studio of the ladies" for women were not allowed entry to the École des Beaux-Arts. Some also served as his models. One of these was Dorothy Tennant who later married Henry Morton Stanley. Pickup in Mount Kisco. Contents of estates from Scarsdale, North Salem, Rye, Manhattan and Bedford to name a few. Rare art lot to include a pair of Mark Coomer New York City, mid century Serigraphs and a Lenox Patriots bowl. Each serigraph is limited to 100 and measures 16.5" x 19" in original frames. Titled, "Bridge in Central Park" and "Arch in Washington Square Park," respectively. The bowl measures 9" x 4". Mark Coomer was born in Bay City, MI in 1914. He studied in Chicago and Detroit. Mark Coomer visited La Porte, Indiana with his wife Sally in 1952, and the relationship with our company to sell his serigraphs began. They would only do 100 of each subject, to make these truly limited edition pieces of art. All but the last 24 subjects were done on Masonite. The larger ones were done on paper. Mark and Sally loved each other and loved the art they created together. He lived in the Chicago suburb of Prospect Heights for a while, and later in Arizona while exhibiting his paintings and limited edition serigraphs nationally. Coomer passed away in 2004. Pickup in Mount Kisco. Contents of estates from Scarsdale, North Salem, Rye, Manhattan and Bedford to name a few. Please refer to pictures for condition.
