Straight Razor Auction Ending 11/18

Items located in Pleasant Valley, NY. This offering of rare and unusual straight razors comes from the Estate of Kurt Moe of Minnesota. Kurt was an avid collector of straight razors and a personal friend for over forty years. Kurt bought many of these examples from me over the past forty plus years. This offering is 1,080 pieces in 181 lots. This third session contains many unique, one of a kind straight razors and razor sets including celluloid, carved bone, figural cast aluminum, antique stag, sterling silver, tortoise shell, black buffalo horn & more. Kurt and his wife collected many other categories of memorabilia including antique toys, banks, tins, soda fountain items and advertising. We will be offering all of these items at auction in upcoming sessions.

Payment is due by Wednesday, November 20 at 1PM.

Pickup in Pleasant Valley, NY must be completed by Wednesday, November 20 at 3PM.

All lots sold as is, where is. There is a 15% Buyers Premium for all lots purchased. Payment methods for non-vehicles & non-equipment include cash, MC, Visa, Discover or good check. Payment method for vehicles & equipment is cash, cashiers check, money order or wire transfer only, no exceptions. You can make credit card payment online by going to your Member Area and selecting your invoice.

#151 – Three personalized ''picture handled'' straight razors made by The Novelty Cutlery Company of Canton, Ohio. They specialized in creating straight razor handles with personalized information and chosen images to be sealed under/within clear celluloid which was patented in 1879.. Shavers would provide their information and pick out images from ''stock cuts'' or provide their own images to be presented in the handle design. Novelty Cutlery was not the only company producing these handles and there is evidence that they might have produced for other makers. Rare.

#153 – 15 ''Folk Art'' wood handled straight razors. Note: Replacement Fold Art wood handles have been witnessed on 19thC straight razor blades as a testament to the frugality of shavers. Often it was the ''wedge'' blade itself that caused the breakage if the blade was closed too far or the handle material was too fragile for the blade (ivory, tortoiseshell, pearl or thin horn scales). These wood handles were very well crafted, sometimes utilizing the original spacer and,or pins. For the past fifty years of collecting, I had not sold any of my Folk Art Handled Razors. However, once I did sell them, Kurt Moe was one of the collectors who bought them. Now you have the opportunity.
