James Emmot Caldwell was born and raised in Poughkeepsie NY where he grew up as lifelong friends with the Vassar Brothers. James E. Caldwell started at the young age of 14 as an apprentice (the youngest in the industry at that time) under Peter Perret Hayes eventually becoming a master silversmith.
